Help George Zimmerman Fight A Lynching

ORLANDO, Fla. — George Zimmerman’s lawyer writes that since a judge set his bail at $1 million, supporters have responded with a surge of donations that now top $36,000. Here is the link to his defense fund website :

Zimmerman was released Friday from the Seminole County Jail on $1 million bond. On Thursday, Circuit Judge Kenneth Lester Jr. set that as the right amount to make sure the defendant would come back to court when he’s supposed to. That $1 million bond required Zimmerman to come up with $100,000 for the 10 percent security required by a bail bondsman.

That was easy. They had $211,000 on hand in a legal defense fund, but defense attorney Mark O’Mara wrote in a blog post Thursday that that would not be enough to cover other expected legal expenses. He made an emotional plea on his website, asking donors to show their support for Zimmerman by giving more, and they responded.
In a blog post that appeared Sunday, O’Mara wrote that $36,000 in donations had poured in since the new bond order.
He also wrote that Zimmerman is at a "safe house" in Seminole County. Now that he’s out of jail, O’Mara wrote, the defendant can help with his defense
.
The 28-year-old Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder for shooting Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black 17-year-old, on Feb. 26. Zimmerman told police he shot Martin in self-defense after the teenager knocked him to the ground with a single punch, then began pounding his head on a sidewalk.
