<a href="http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/oct/4/blue-ridge-hotel-defies-park-service-shutdown/" rel="nofollow" style="-webkit-transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: red; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; outline: none 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">Park Rangers blocked the entrance to the Pigsah Inn</a> off the Blue Ridge Parkway, telling prospective customers that it was closed. The Pigsah Inn is a privately owned establishment. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a road maintained by the NPS that couldn’t be closed because it is the main artery between cities and is considered a main thoroughfare.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Bruce O’Connell, owner of the inn, received a letter from the National Park Service, telling him to close down until the government shutdown was over. The idea of closing parks and other government establishments is ostensibly to save money. Thr Pigsah Inn, which is a private concern and has no NPS personnel working on site, is actually costing the NPA more, since they have assigned two officers to block the entrance and force it’s closure.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
After a few days of being closed, O’Connell decided enough was enough and reopened his business on Friday, defying the NPS. Is an IRS audit far behind? His in is on private property along a highway which is open. He is defying the NPS to close the inn, because he simply believes the NPS does not have the authority to close a private business that pays all of it’s own bills.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The Pigsah Inn is not a unique situation as the NPS has also closed City Tavern in Philadelphia, and Nauset Knoll Motor Lodge on Cape Cod. <a href="http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-closes-down-the-atlantic-ocean" style="-webkit-transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: red; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; outline: none 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">They have also closed down the Atlantic Ocean, </a>believe it or not. There is talk in Washington of a major investigation into the actions of the NPS and questions as to is ordering these closures, although it’s unlikely the head of the NPS would do these things without the explicit order or blessing of the oval office.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Michael Litterst, the Park Service’s chief spokesman said:</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<a href="http://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=2232158310324480319" rel="nofollow" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #217dd3; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">“It’s a matter that we consider the National Park System to be a single entity, and without an appropriation, the entire system is closed and cannot reopen until funding is restored. We do not believe it is appropriate or feasible to have some parts of the system open while others are closed to the public.”</a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
However, that statement is less than truthful, since the Blue Ridge Parkway is part of the national park system. However, it’s the main roadway from the tourist areas of the North Carolina Smokey Mountains and the popular Tennessee destinations of Pigeon Forge, Sieverville, and Gatlinburg. Closing that would bring the ire out from tourists from all over the country.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
O’Connell explained his reasoning for reversing his decision and reopening the inn, <em style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><strong style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">“The level of intimidation and coercion became such that we backed down. Then after sleeping on it, our own convictions took front and center and we decided to reopen,”</strong></em></div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The park ranger’s superintendant did not return calls from the Washington Times for comment.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Never before in American history has a Russian President’s stock been as high as current Soviet Premiere Vladimir Putin’s. America, currently in the middle of the first government shut down since the Clinton administration of 1995, is looking for leadership, finding very little to almost non in current U.S. President Barack Hussein Obama.</div>
<h2 style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 30px; font-weight: normal; line-height: 1em; margin: 0px 0px 15px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
How do I put this politely? You Americans are dumb. Today, Russia and America are fighting each other over fighting the Muslim radicals. Instead, we should be <em style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px; font-size: 30px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">uniting</em> to crush these violent Islamists, once and for all.</h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
While Obama caters to Muslim radicals, particularly Al Qaeda terrorists in Syria, who were run out of norther Iraq by U.S. forces in the most recent Iraq war, by labeling them “rebels” and arming them and providing them with machinery and money, Russian President Vladimir Putin has taken a more realistic stance toward the modern threat toward the West and all free nations, radical Islam, and recommended in a recent letter to the American people (see more here:<a href="http://freepatriot.org/2013/09/08/russia-love-letter-putin-americans/" style="-webkit-transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: red; font-size: 17px; margin: 0px; outline: none 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none; transition: background-color 0.2s linear, color 0.2s linear; vertical-align: baseline;" title="From Russia with love">http://freepatriot.org/2013/09/08/russia-love-letter-putin-americans/</a> ) that “Moscow, Washington, London, Paris, Brussels, Jerusalem, Lagos, Addis Ababa, Beijing, New Delhi–come together in a new Holy Alliance, similar to that which kept Europe safe from radicalism in the early 19th century. Let’s join one another to crush the unholy, unruly, jihadi Muslims. The good Muslims will thank us for it. And if they don’t–too bad.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; line-height: 20px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Meanwhile, while soldiers on American military bases cannot shop for groceries in the PX’s, because they've been closed, Obama continues to play golf at Andrew’s Air Base.</div>

Ted Cruz (R-TX) is not only the 2016 frontrunner but also the politician Republicans view as their new leader in Washington, D.C.<br />A Public Policy Polling poll of GOP primary voters conducted September 25-26, while Cruz was speaking on the Senate floor for 21 hours in support of defunding Obamacare, found Cruz is the top choice “among Republican primary voters to be their candidate for President in 2016″:</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
He leads the way with 20% to 17% for Rand Paul, 14% for Chris Christie, 11% for Jeb Bush, 10% each for Marco Rubio and Paul Ryan, 4% for Bobby Jindal, and 3% each for Rick Santorum and Scott Walker.<br />Cruz received the support of 34% of “very conservative” voters while Paul received 17% and Ryan 12%. Those “very conservative” voters make up the greatest share of the GOP primary electorate at 39%.<br />The poll also found that “Cruz is now viewed more broadly as the leader of the Republican Party” over Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH):</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
When asked whether they trust Cruz or GOP leader Mitch McConnell more, Cruz wins out 49/13. When it comes to who’s more trusted between Cruz and Speaker John Boehner, Cruz has a 51/20 advantage. And when it comes to Cruz and 2008 GOP nominee and Senate colleague John McCain, Cruz wins out 52/31. He now has more credibility with the GOP base than the folks who have been leading the party for years.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“Ted Cruz this week established himself as the grassroots hero of the Republican Party,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling, which is left-leaning. “The party base has a lot more faith in him than their more official leaders like Mitch McConnell and John Boehner.”</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Cruz has said this week that he is accountable to the grassroots and has blistered Washington’s permanent political class for not listening to Americans outside of the beltway. He hammered that point time and time again while he was on the Senate floor for his quasi-filibuster.</div>
<div style="background-color: transparent; border: 0px currentColor; margin: 0px 0px 24px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The poll, which surveyed 743 GOP primary voters, has a margin of error is +/- 3.6%.</div>

Even the usually corrupt and establishment-oriented media complex is starting to have enough, with media members from every major news organization openly questioning what on earth Obama is thinking about Syria. For example, ABC’s John Carl point-blank asked, “Why should members of Congress go against the will of their constituents and support your decision on this? And I still haven’t heard a direct response to Brianna’s question.”</div>

Obama tried to laugh it off by saying “you won’t get a direct answer”, but the response was only a few awkward chuckles. Watch the exchange above.</div>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">UPDATE: Britam has

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Alleged hacked
emails from defense contractor Britam reveal a plan “approved by Washington”
and funded by Qatar to stage a chemical weapons attack in Syria and blame it on
the Assad regime, fulfilling what the Obama administration has made clear is a
“red line” that would mandate US military intervention.</span></div>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">The leaked emails,
obtained by a hacker in Germany, feature an exchange (<a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/static.prisonplanet.com/p/images/january2013/280113email.png"><span style="color: blue;">click here</span></a> for screenshot) between Britam

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">We’ve got a new
offer. It’s about Syria again. Qataris propose an attractive deal and swear
that the idea is approved by Washington.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">We’ll have to
deliver a CW to Homs, a Soviet origin g-shell from Libya similar to those that
Assad should have. They want us to deploy our Ukrainian personnel that should
speak Russian and make a video record.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Frankly, I don’t
think it’s a good idea but the sums proposed are enormous. Your opinion?<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Kind regards<br />
David<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">The fact that the
plan involves delivering a CW (chemical weapon) that is “similar to those Assad
should have,” clearly suggests that the idea is to stage a false flag chemical
weapons attack that could be blamed on Assad by Gulf states like Qatar and NATO
powers.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">

process of how the emails were hacked and includes screenshots of the leaked
documents, the hack also uncovered, “extremely personal information,” including
copies of passports of Britam employees, some of whom appeared to be
mercenaries.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">

<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Last year, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbMdll58lis"><span style="color: blue;">reports began to circulate</span></a> that that
US-backed rebel fighters in Syria had been given gas masks and were willing to
stage a chemical weapons attack which would then be blamed on the Assad regime
to grease the skids for NATO military intervention.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Soon after in
August, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/news.investors.com/ibd-editorials/121012-636561-obama-moves-syria-chemical-weapons-red-line.htm?p=full"><span style="color: blue;">President Barack Obama warned</span></a> that the use
or even transportation of chemical weapons by the Assad regime would represent
a “red line” that would precipitate military intervention. French
President <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/uk.reuters.com/article/2012/08/27/uk-syria-crisis-france-idUKBRE87Q0QZ20120827"><span style="color: blue;">Francois Hollande followed suit</span></a>, stating that the
use of such weapons “Would be a legitimate reason for direct intervention.”<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">At around the same
time, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.infowars.com/nato-plot-to-use-ambulances-as-cover-for-humanitarian-invasion-of-syria/"><span style="color: blue;">a source told Syrian news channel Addounia</span></a> that
a Saudi company had fitted 1400 ambulance vehicles with anti-gas &
anti-chemical filtering systems at a cost of $97,000 dollars each, in
preparation for a chemical weapons attack carried out by FSA rebels using mortar
rounds. A further 400 vehicles were prepared as troop carriers.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">The attack would
be blamed on the Syrian Army and exploited as an excuse for a military assault.
A March 2012 Brookings Institution report entitled <i>Saving Syria:
Assessing Options For Regime Change</i> <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.infowars.com/assault-on-syria-matches-brookings-institution-regime-change-strategy/"><span style="color: blue;">outlined this very scenario</span></a> – where a
manufactured humanitarian crisis would be cited as justification for an attack.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Yesterday, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/whtc.com/news/articles/2013/jan/27/israel-vows-syria-strike-at-any-sign-of-chemical-arms-transfer/"><span style="color: blue;">Israel’s vice premier Silvan Shalom told reporters</span></a> that
if Syrian rebels obtained chemical weapons from stockpiles belonging to the
Assad regime, such a development would force Israel to resort to “preventive
operations,” in other words – a military strike on Syria.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">In December, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=H-6O-gApVrU"><span style="color: blue;">a shocking video</span></a> emerged of Syrian rebels
testing what appeared to be a form of nerve gas on rabbits, bolstering claims
that the rebels had already obtained chemical weapons.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;"><a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/landdestroyer.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/is-uk-defense-contractor-planning.html"><span style="color: blue;">As Tony Cartalucci also highlights</span></a>, “Mention of
acquiring chemical weapons from Libya is particularly troubling. Libya’s
arsenal had fallen into the hands of sectarian extremists with NATO assistance
in 2011 in the culmination of efforts to overthrow the North African nation .
Since then, Libya’s militants led by commanders of <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2011/09/west-point-terror-center-confirms-al.html"><span style="color: blue;">Al Qaeda’s Libyan Islamic Fighting Group</span></a> (LIFG)
have armed sectarian extremists across the Arab World, from <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/landdestroyer.blogspot.com/2012/04/nato-triggers-african-terror-wave.html"><span style="color: blue;">as far West as Mali, to as far East as Syria.”</span></a><o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Last month, 29
different US-backed Syrian opposition groups pledged their allegiance to Al
Nusra, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated group which, <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.nytimes.com/2012/12/09/world/middleeast/syrian-rebels-tied-to-al-qaeda-play-key-role-in-war.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0"><span style="color: blue;">as the New York Times reported</span></a>, “killed numerous
American troops in Iraq.<o:p></o:p></span></div>
<div class="MsoNormal" style="background: white; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto;">
<span style="font-size: 13.5pt;">Numerous reports
confirm that <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20130223154355/http:/www.boomantribune.com/story/2013/1/9/3557/14093"><span style="color: blue;">Al Nusra is the leading front line fighting force in Syria</span></a> and
is commanding other rebel groups. Given their prominent role, allied with the
fact that the terror group has been responsible for numerous bloody attacks in
Syria, the notion that the Obama administration would approve a plot that could
see chemical weapons fall into the hands of Al-Qaeda terrorists could represent
a foreign policy scandal even bigger than Benghazi-Gate.<o:p></o:p></span></div>

<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
<span style="color: #999999; font-size: 14px; line-height: 16px;">By </span><a href="http://www.usnews.com/topics/author/roff_peter" rel="author" style="color: #005ea6; font-size: 14px; line-height: 16px; text-transform: uppercase;">PETER ROFF</a></div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The alleged abuse by the Obama Administration of the United States Internal Revenue Service goes back much farther than the current inquiry into whether conservative political groups seeking non-profit status had their applications deliberately "slow walked" through the process on the order of White House personnel.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Back in 2010, when the president and his senior advisers were busy "demonizing" the nascent Tea Party Movement and its supporters, Austan Goolsbee, who was then chairman of Obama's Council of Economic Advisers, made a comment during a conference call with reporters that implied he had taken a peek at the confidential tax returns belonging to Koch Industries, the industrial giant that is one of the nation's largest privately held companies and is a favorite bête noire of the American left.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Goolsbee's seemingly offhand reference to Koch Industries' tax returns during the call caught the attention of several influential members of Congress including Sen. Chuck Grassley, the top Republican on the Senate committee that has jurisdiction over the IRS. Along with six of his colleagues, the senior senator from Iowa asked the Treasury Department's inspector general for tax administration to look into the matter.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
[<a href="http://www.usnews.com/cartoons/editorial-cartoons-on-the-nsa" style="color: #005ea6; text-decoration: none;">See a collection of editorial cartoons on the NSA</a>.]</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
An offense of this type is a serious breach of privacy, with potential criminal and financial penalties attached. Tax returns are confidential documents. It's been that way at least since the administration of President Calvin Coolidge. Political appointees are not supposed to be able to see them, especially for the purpose of gathering useful intelligence that can be used to attack the reputations of a president's political opponents. One would expect that violations of this type, especially ones that had garnered the attention of senior lawmakers on Capitol Hill would be handled quickly, efficiently and thoroughly.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Unfortunately, no one really knows what happened because, as Eliana Johnson reported earlier this week for <a href="http://www.nationalreview.com/article/356260/missing-koch-report-eliana-johnson" style="color: #005ea6; text-decoration: none;">National Review Online</a>, the investigation concluded two years ago with no charges filed but no one outside the U.S. Department of the Treasury has apparently been allowed to see the report.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
As Johnson reported, Grassley – who asked for the investigation – has not been allowed to see it. Neither has anyone from Koch Industries, who have asked to see it but have been given the traditional bureaucratic runaround, with the Treasury Department telling the company to talk to the IRS and the IRS telling the company to talk to the Treasury Department.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
[<a href="http://www.usnews.com/cartoons/barack-obama-cartoons" style="color: #005ea6; text-decoration: none;">Check out our editorial cartoons on President Obama</a>.]</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The rules that are supposed to guarantee the information on tax returns remains confidential are also used to keep reports on alleged invasions of privacy secret. Unless a referral seeking prosecution is made to the U.S. Department of Justice, at which point the report would become public.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
"If Justice declines to prosecute," Johnson wrote, "all the relevant information remains under lock and key. Critics worry that a highly politicized Justice Department is unlikely to take up cases that have the potential to damage the Obama administration."</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
What it boils down to is this: The victim of an alleged crime is not allowed to see the report that determines whether or not a crime was committed. Even worse, as Johnson explained in her story, "The results of investigations conducted by the Treasury Department inspector general are considered the confidential tax information of the alleged perpetrator." Meaning the person who may have committed the crime receives the very protections they themselves have been accused of violating.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
[<a href="http://www.usnews.com/cartoons/democrat-cartoons" style="color: #005ea6; text-decoration: none;">See a collection of political cartoons on the Democratic Party</a>].</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
It has long been documented that presidents and political appointees have used the IRS to make trouble for their political opponents or to score political points, as was the case regarding former U.S Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon and Philadelphia newspaper publisher Moses Annenberg – whom the Roosevelt Administration hounded into prison and some say an early grave because of his opposition to the New Deal and other FDR initiatives. Lyndon Johnson and Richard Nixon both used the tax agency as a weapon against those seeking to thwart their initiatives and threaten their rule. Even though Goolsbee still maintains he simply misspoke when he said, "We have a series of entities that do not pay corporate income tax… (S)ome of which are really giant firms – you know, Koch Industries, I think, is one" it seems an awfully well-informed mistake to make.</div>
<a href="" id="read_more" style="background-color: white; color: #005ea6; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 21px;"></a><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 21px;"></span><br />
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 1.3em; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Raiding for political purposes and sharing information contained in individual or corporate tax returns is a frightening abuse of power; perhaps the most serious that can occur outside the government's war making ability. The Obama administration now stands accused of doing just that. Congress should act to change the law that keeps reports like this secret, leaving it to the discretion of the potential victim, rather than the Treasury Department or the IRS, to decide whether or not anything should be released.</div>

<a href="http://media.cleveland.com/opinion_impact/photo/13236092-large.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="205" src="http://media.cleveland.com/opinion_impact/photo/13236092-large.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="background-color: white;">
<span style="background-color: transparent; font-size: 21.600000381469727px; line-height: 24px;"><span style="color: #363636; font-family: Times New Roman, serif;">by Rob Portman</span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white;">
<span style="color: #363636; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 16pt; line-height: 24px;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white;">
<span style="color: #363636; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; font-size: 16pt; line-height: 24px;">Big scandals start off as small stories. The <a href="http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/domestic-taxes/316713-house-gop-call-on-irs-to-cease-continued-targeting" style="color: #305cb6; font-weight: bold; outline: 0px;">controversy engulfing the Internal Revenue Service</a> seems to grow bigger every day. What began as what the Obama administration said was a handful of “rogue agents” in a local Cincinnati office has turned into a scandal that runs all the way to the highest levels of the IRS and maybe beyond. The question every American should be asking is this: Just how far does this story go, and when is President Barack Obama going to do something about it?</span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">In the run-up to the last election, I started receiving troubling reports from conservative groups in Ohio about alleged mistreatment by the IRS. In response, in March 2012, I spearheaded a Senate letter to the IRS demanding answers. Six weeks later IRS officials assured us that only legitimate criteria were used to evaluate tax-exempt groups. That assurance proved false, and instead of correcting the record when they say they learned the truth a week later, the IRS remained silent. The truth was uncovered only when the press began to report on the agency’s ideological targeting.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">But the cover-up didn’t end when IRS misconduct became public. Initially, the IRS sought to explain away its political targeting as a “shortcut” to deal with a “surge” in tax-exempt applications. But the record soon revealed that tax-exempt applications actually declined the year the targeting began. Then the IRS claimed that any misconduct could be attributed to a handful of “rogue” employees from a regional office, rather than at the direction of senior officials in Washington, D.C. But investigators soon found letters targeting Tea Party groups signed by <a href="http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/may/23/irs-lois-lerner-tea-party" style="color: #305cb6; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">Lois Lerner</a>, the Washington-based IRS official who led the division that carried out the targeting policy. Ms. Lerner refused to answer questions from a congressional committee investigating this issue, choosing instead to invoke her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Now an IRS whistle-blower has confirmed what many had suspected but could not prove — the misconduct involved not only Ms. Lerner and the Washington office generally, but specifically <a href="http://thehill.com/blogs/on-the-money/domestic-taxes/316713-house-gop-call-on-irs-to-cease-continued-targeting" style="color: #305cb6; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">included the IRS chief counsel</a>, one of only two Obama political appointees in the entire agency. Several news outlets have now reported that the <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/07/24/irs-scandal-jack-lew_n_3648170.html" style="color: #305cb6; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">chief counsel may have met with the president at the White House on April 23, 2012</a>, just two days before the IRS issued a revised set of “be on the lookout” instructions to IRS agents reviewing tax-exempt applications that appear to target Tea Party groups for more stringent review. Perhaps most troubling, the White House’s timeline of events — who knew what and when — has changed repeatedly since news of improper targeting first became public.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">And the scope of the scandal is growing. Just a few days ago,<a href="http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424127887323681904578642180886421040.html" style="color: #305cb6; font-weight: bold; text-decoration: none;">congressional investigators released emails suggesting that staff at the Federal Election Commission were engaged in conservative targeting</a>of their own, perhaps with improper help from Ms. Lerner and the IRS. Now evidence is mounting that one of the most powerful agencies of the federal government — the Securities and Exchange Commission — has also engaged in political targeting. In a letter to the chairwoman of the SEC, congressional leaders revealed that documents produced for the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform “indicate that the SEC has been under immense pressure from elected officials and special interest groups as part of a government-wide effort to stifle political speech.”</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">With each new revelation we discover more incompetence, and more examples of politicized enforcement of the law — all enemies of good governance. And while the Obama administration has voiced outrage about government misconduct, it has failed to provide the American people and congressional investigators with critical information and promised transparency. Outrage has not led to action.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Instead, the president and his administration have ignored requests for more information — including multiple specific requests from me. They also have not fully answered a bipartisan investigation by the Senate Finance Committee of which I am a member. In total opposition to the words and assurances of the White House, the IRS, which answers to the president, has simply failed to comply with many of the committee’s requests.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">Based on its conduct, the position of the Obama administration seems to be that if they ignore these scandals long enough, they will simply go away. The White House has gone so far as to refer to the outrage surrounding revelations about the IRS as a “phony scandal.” That’s a shame. This pattern of misconduct represents everything that is wrong with Washington, and it is behavior like this that has shattered the trust of the American people in their government.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">
<span style="font-family: Calibri,sans-serif; font-size: x-small;"><span style="font-size: 11pt;"><span style="font-family: Times New Roman,serif; font-size: medium;"><span style="font-size: 16pt;">If the Administration does not come clean soon, the stain from this scandal will not just be on the IRS, but on the Administration as a whole.</span></span></span></span></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #363636; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 24px;">

Hiring has improved since the financial crash of 2008, but the positions being filled are mostly low-wage and part-time gigs, according to a new analysis by <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/21/us-usa-economy-jobs-analysis-idUSBRE97K05K20130821?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&dlvrit=992637" style="border: 0px; color: #e91e24; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;">Reuters</a>.</div>

“[T]hree out of four of the nearly 1 million hires this year are part-time and many of the jobs are low-paid,” the <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/08/21/us-usa-economy-jobs-analysis-idUSBRE97K05K20130821?feedType=RSS&feedName=topNews&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter&dlvrit=992637" style="border: 0px; color: #e91e24; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;">report reads</a>.</div>
<div data-key="segpf" data-num="3" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
Sluggish economic growth and uncertainty over the implementation of the Affordable Care Act have made it such that employers are primarily interested in part-time workers, according to executives at staffing and payroll firms.</div>
<div data-key="espao" data-num="4" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
“Employers say part-timers offer them flexibility,” Reuters explains. “If the economy picks up, they can quickly offer full-time work. If orders dry up, they know costs are under control. It also helps them to curb costs they might face under the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.”</div>
<div data-key="tcara" data-num="5" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
“This can all become a less-than-virtuous cycle as new employees, who are mainly in lower wage businesses such as retail and food services, do not have the disposable income to drive demand for goods and services,” the report adds.</div>
<div data-key="pbobh" data-num="6" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul has been one of the main drivers in the trend toward part-time work, staffing firm executives told Reuters. The law recognizes 30 hours or more per week as “full-time.” So certain businesses, including clothing outlet <a href="http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/08/21/ups-obamacare-forcing-us-to-cut-15k-spouses-from-coverage/" style="border: 0px; color: #e91e24; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;">Forever 21</a>, have cut their employees’ hours to a shade below 30 hours.</div>
<div data-key="uaobc" data-num="7" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
“Us and other people are hiring part-time because we don’t know what the costs are going to be to hire full-time,” said Steven Raz, founder of Cornerstone Search Group. “We are being cautious.”</div>
<div data-key="rsttt" data-num="8" style="border: 0px; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
Raz said the increase in part-time jobs began in 2012 and has grown exponentially in 2013. In fact, he noted, his staffing firm has seen an increase of roughly 15 percent from this time last year. Other staffing firms confirmed the trend.</div>
<div data-key="thpci" data-num="9" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
“They have put some of the full-time positions on hold and are hiring part-time employees so they won’t have to pay out the benefits,” said Client Staffing Solutions’ Darin Hovendick. “There is so much uncertainty. It’s really tough to design a budget when you don’t know the final cost involved.”</div>
<div data-key="atwtl" data-num="10" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
And the White House’s recent decision to <a href="http://www.theblaze.com/stories/2013/05/15/another-headache-for-the-obamacare-train-wreck-small-business-owners-sue-irs-over-employer-mandate/" style="border: 0px; color: #e91e24; font-family: inherit; font-size: 14px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; text-decoration: none;">delay the so-called employer mandate</a> has apparently done little to calm fears over the law.</div>
<div data-key="ihcot" data-num="11" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
It has “confused people even further,” said Bill Peppler, managing partner at Kavaliro. “When we talk to customers, I still don’t think anyone has a handle on this.”</div>
<div data-key="blnbh" data-num="12" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
But let’s not forget about the sluggish economy. Obamacare isn’t the only thing holding back hiring.</div>
<div data-key="iathb" data-num="13" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
Indeed, according to the San Francisco Federal Reserve Bank, uncertainty over fiscal and regulatory policy was the reason U.S. unemployment at the end of 2012 was 1.3 percentage points higher than it should have been.</div>
<div data-key="urgfw" data-num="14" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
Uncertainty regarding government policies, the implementation of Obamacare, and the future of the global economy have all worked to discourage businesses from investing in full-time workers.</div>
<div data-key="htppe" data-num="15" style="border: 0px; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px; margin-bottom: 18px; padding: 0px;">
Hence the part-time economy.</div>

WASHINGTON, D.C. – There are some teachers who spend their nights grading papers, creating lesson plans, and preparing for the next day of classes.<br /><span id="more-20139" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><a href="http://eagnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/sugar-daddy.jpg" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="sugar daddy" class="alignright size-full wp-image-20141" height="225" src="http://eagnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/sugar-daddy.jpg" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; float: right; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px 0px 1em 1em; max-width: 100%; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="225" /></a>And then there are teachers who spend their nights in a different way – being so-called “sugar babies.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
SeekingArrangement.com, a dating site for “mutually-beneficial relationships” almost exclusively between older men and younger women, recently reported that about 40,000 public school teachers have joined the site as “sugar babies,” according to a story from the<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/19/teachers-sugar-baby-seeking-arrangement_n_3769710.html" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">Huffington Post</a>.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The “successful and generous” sugar daddies affiliated with the website provide pre-determined allowances to “attractive, ambitious and goal oriented” sugar babies, in exchange for their companionship, the newspaper reported.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
These “allowances” range from luxurious vacations and gifts, to the “daddies” paying off bills and providing credit cards, checks and cash.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The website recently announced an “influx of teachers signing up last month, prior to heading back to school,” the story notes.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Site statistics report that most of the “teacher sugar babies” currently teach in the Philadelphia school district. Other districts with high numbers of participants are Miami-Dade, Los Angeles and New York.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
SeekingArrangement.com CEO Brandon Wade believes that teachers have joined the website as a way to earn extra income.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The average teacher on the site reportedly asks for about $3,000 a month from her sugar daddy, according to the story.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“They can’t possibly be judged for whatever extracurricular activities they choose to pursue to stay afloat,” Wade said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Wade has a point, to an extent.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In America, what teachers do after work is their own business, as long as it’s legal (we can’t stress that part enough), does not affect their classroom performance or their students, and does not have a negative impact on their schools’ reputation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
However, as teachers, they also have a moral and ethical duty to serve as role models for their students.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This is a responsibility that follows them in and out of the classroom, before and after the school bell rings.</div>

An editorial from the newspaper said, “the truth is that, in context, the bulletin board fit perfectly into the cultural knowledge curriculum’s study of the five great religions of the world – Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism and Islam. The point was not to promote religion but to serve fourth-grade social studies this fall.”</div>

It’s obviously good for students to learn about the most popular religions of the world, their fundamental beliefs and values, and their impact on human culture. But judging from the photo alone, the bulletin board in the Wichita classroom has the appearance of a promotional ad.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
We believe most Americans are tolerant of minority groups and their religious freedoms, but they aren’t willing to pay tax dollars to have a controversial religion pushed on their children.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
There may be more to this story than we know. Perhaps other bulletin boards on other walls of the classroom had similarly enticing displays for Christianity and the other religions. Or perhaps those displays are scheduled to go up in the same spot later, or already had their turn.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
That would certainly make the Islam display more appropriate and understandable.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The editors should be more sensitive to the millions of Americans who remain upset about the events of 9/11/2001 and other terrorist acts perpetrated by fundamentalist Muslim groups. While there are millions of peaceful, moderate Muslims in our nation, and they’ve certainly experienced unfair discrimination, there are also fundamentalists in our midst that support the people who want to harm our nation.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In short, the Muslim faith has a shaky reputation in the U.S. at the moment, and it’s easy to understand why.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Besides, as the liberals always remind us, the promotion of religion is not the role of government schools. As one blogger asked, where is the ACLU on this issue? If there were (or is going to be) a bulletin board displaying the fundamental doctrines of Christianity, you can bet the liberal lawyers would be up in arms.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Frankly, we’re stunned that school administrators and Eagle editors were surprised by the uproar provoked by the bulletin board. These people live and work in America’s heartland, not some remote cave. They know most Americans are fair-minded people, but they also realize we’re struggling to understand and accept a religion that has so many followers who hate us so much.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The school and the Eagle editorial board deserve an “F” when it comes to sensitivity toward their countrymen.</div>

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The radical attack group Media Matters obviously didn’t get a copy of the White House Common Core talking points.<br /><span id="more-20177" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"></span><br /><a href="http://eagnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/On-one-leg.jpg" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><img alt="On one leg" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-20178" height="300" src="http://eagnews.org/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/On-one-leg-296x300.jpg" style="background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; border: 0px; float: right; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px 0px 1em 1em; max-width: 100%; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" width="296" /></a>Defenders of the national education standards like to insist that the initiative was “state-led” and is therefore not a federal takeover of the public education system.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
But in its attack on Fox News for airing a video clip about Common Core’s new way of doing math, Media Matters accidently <a href="http://mediamatters.org/mobile/blog/2013/08/19/fox-selectively-edits-video-to-attack-common-co/195461" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">spoke</a> the truth: the standards are “an Obama administration education initiative.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
As if that weren’t already obvious. The Obama administration dangled millions of dollars under the noses of cash-hungry states a few years ago to entice them into adopting the standards, which weren’t even developed at the time.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The president and his staff clearly worked very hard to get this initiative off the ground.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
Yet Secretary of Education Arne Duncan has become <a href="http://eagnews.org/duncan-wants-the-mainstream-media-to-help-sell-common-core-standards-to-an-increasingly-skeptical-public/" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">increasingly defensive</a> over questions and criticisms of the new, untested standards.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In a June speech before the American Society of Newspaper Editors, Duncan insisted that the federal government was not a leading force behind Common Core.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
He has also pleaded with U.S. Chamber of Commerce officials to be “more supportive of the Common Core because it was coming under withering attack.”</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
“It seems that a big part of Education Secretary Arne Duncan’s job now is giving impassioned defenses” of Common Core, a Washington Post <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/answer-sheet/wp/2013/06/25/arne-duncan-tells-newspaper-editors-how-to-report-on-common-core/" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(252, 215, 0); background-color: transparent; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial; color: #414b4a; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; margin: 0px; outline: none; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">story</a> said.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
If Duncan and the administration have no stake in Common Core, why would they so vigorously defend it? If it was simply a “state-led” initiative created and pushed by governors, why would Duncan’s dander be up?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #333333; font-family: myriad-pro, sans-serif; font-size: 15.555556297302246px; line-height: 21.99652862548828px; margin-bottom: 10px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In its zeal to defend anything related to the Obama administration, Media Matters slipped up and said what everybody already knows: Common Core is the administration’s baby. And that means we can all be worried about how much the feds plan to intrude in the operation of local school districts.</div>

Friday's jobs report was disappointing, but it also contained a truly heartbreaking statistic. Black teen unemployment is a <a href="http://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t02.htm" style="-webkit-tap-highlight-color: rgb(255, 85, 0); color: #0088bb; text-decoration: none;">shocking 41.6%</a>. In July last year, the unemployment was considerably lower, at 36%. That almost half of black teens who want to work can't find jobs is a stain on Obama's economic policies. </h2>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #111111; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 10px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
This isn't a numbers trick. This isn't a rate based on the whole black teen population in the country. This is the proportion of the black teen population that is looking for work but can't find a job. Just in March, the number was eight points lower at 33%. The white teen unemployment rate is half the black rate, although still high at 20%. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #111111; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 10px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
The heartbreaking thing is that these teens haven't given up hope and left the job market, something that has artificially lowered the overall unemployment rate. The unemployment rate is based on those who want a job and are trying to find one. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #111111; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 10px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
In recent months, President Obama and national Democrats have increased calls to raise the minimum wage or impose "living wages" on certain companies in urban areas. Minimum wage jobs, however, are often "first jobs," providing that critical first rung on the jobs' ladder. Indeed, more than two-thirds of minimum wage employees receive a raise within the first year on the job. </div>
<div style="background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #111111; font-family: Georgia, serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 22px; margin-top: 10px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
You can't get a raise, however, without first having a job. Our economic policies are abandoning a generation and threatening to create a permanent underclass. It is shameful. </div>

<div style="font-size: 20px; line-height: 1.5; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
(Reuters) - Kansas and Arizona filed a lawsuit against the U.S. federal government on Wednesday, seeking court approval for states to require proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The lawsuit brought by the two Republican-led states accuses an agency of President <span class="mandelbrot_refrag"><a class="mandelbrot_refrag" href="http://www.reuters.com/people/barack-obama?lc=int_mb_1001" style="color: #006e97; cursor: pointer; outline: none; text-decoration: none;">Barack Obama's</a></span> Democratic administration of preventing them from enforcing state laws that require proof of citizenship as a way to prevent illegal immigrants from voting.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The suit, part of an on-going battle over voter registration laws being waged nationwide, demands that the U.S. Election Assistance Commission modify federal voter registration forms to allow states to require proof of citizenship.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The federal form now asks for a verbal pledge that the applicant is a U.S. citizen but does not require documentation as proof.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
In June, the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the controversial provision requiring proof of citizenship passed by Arizona voters in a 2004 referendum. The requirement was criticized by immigrant advocacy groups such as the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The groups said it unfairly deterred legal voters from casting ballots because they might not have the required paperwork.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
In a 7-2 vote, the nation's highest court said the 1993 National Voter Registration Act trumps the state law approved in the desert state that borders Mexico. The ruling affected Arizona, Kansas, Georgia and Alabama.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
But the court left the door open for Arizona to assert its arguments through separate litigation, a possibility mentioned by justices during oral arguments in April.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia wrote for the majority that Arizona could still challenge the current form in court or ask the commission to include the citizenship requirement on the federal form in the future.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
The lawsuit was filed in federal court in Topeka, Kansas, by Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Kobach has been active in opposing immigration even before he was elected to state office. As a private lawyer, he was involved in the drafting of the controversial Arizona anti-immigration law passed in 2010 that stirred protests and court challenges.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
A number of states led by Republicans have tightened voter identification laws in recent years, prompting criticism from Democrats and some advocacy groups that they will discourage minorities, the elderly and the young from voting.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans; font-size: 14px; line-height: 1.6; margin-bottom: 10px; padding: 0px;">
Republican supporters of the laws said they are aimed at preventing voter fraud.</div>

Illegal immigrants have boldly demanded everything from civil rights in the U.S. to driver’s licenses and government benefits such as welfare and discounted tuition at public universities, so why stop there?</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
Now they want American taxpayers to finance their organ transplants! This is even more brazen than the discrimination lawsuits illegal aliens have filed against law enforcement agencies—both federal and local—in the U.S. over the years. To make their point, the illegal immigrants have gone on a hunger strike outside an Illinois hospital demanding free organ transplants for themselves and their fellow undocumented comrades.</div>

Dozens of demonstrators and hunger strikers have gathered outside the medical facility chanting through bullhorns and waving large signs to protest the hospital’s policy that patients must be in the U.S. legally to qualify for an organ transplant procedure. One large, yellow sign captured in a newspaper photo says “we are also human!”</span></div>

All of the protestors are from Mexico, according to the news report, and all need either a liver or kidney transplant that they can’t afford to pay for. They obviously don’t have health insurance or they wouldn’t be staging this show. So the illegal aliens want Uncle Sam to step up the plate and pick up the tab. Kidney and liver transplants costs hundreds of thousands of dollars and could run into the millions if there are complications.</div>

<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
The U.S. government already spends <a href="http://www.cis.org/Transcript/HealthCare-Immigration-Panel" style="color: #1879bd; font-weight: 700;" target="_blank">upwards of $4 billion </a>a year to provide the millions of illegal immigrant who live here with medical care, according to figures released by a nonpartisan organization dedicated to researching both legal and illegal immigration. Most of that money goes to hospital emergency rooms and free clinics that treat the uninsured.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
This has created a huge burden for hospitals nationwide that get stuck with the exorbitant cost of treating uninsured illegal immigrants. A few years ago a Florida hospital spent more than a quarter of a million dollars to <a href="http://www.judicialwatch.org/blog/2008/06/feds-ignore-hospital-s-illegal-immigrant-reports/" style="color: #1879bd; font-weight: 700;" target="_blank">fight a lawsuit </a>from an uninsured illegal immigrant returned to his native country after racking up a $1.5 million bill. The case involved a Guatemalan Mayan farm worker who was hospitalized for 3 ½ years at the Stuart facility with severe brain injuries sustained in a car wash.</div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
<br /></div>
<div style="background-color: white; color: #30353b; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; line-height: 24px;">
After receiving a judge’s permission, the hospital put him on a plane back to Guatemala and a legal battle ensued. The same hospital also spent a substantial amount of money treating a brain damaged illegal immigrant from Mexico for two years and, in congressional testimony, the facility’s administrator said more than half of the hospital’s births were to illegal aliens</div>
